OLOS (Object-oriented LOcation System) is an object-oriented distribution middleware for location-aware applications. It is based on Java and Java/RMI.
OLOS was made as a proof-of-concept implementation, based on our research work at the Institute of Software Systems / Tampere University of Technology, Finland. The concepts introduced in OLOS have been presented as a scientific paper, "Object-Oriented Middleware for Location-Aware Applications", in ACM SAC 2004 (ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2004). English-language documentation of OLOS includes also a master of science thesis with the same title as the paper.
As an experiment without further funding, OLOS did not evolve into a full scale product. However, we wanted to share it with others interested in the subjects location-aware applications and location-based services. The provided version is a very initial release, probably containing a log of bugs. However, it has been successfully deployed with a positioning service in a outdoor WLAN testing network.
OLOS is licensed under the MIT-license.
